MOLLEUR SLINGSHOTS INTO SK MODIFIED® WINNERS CIRCLE; DESHAIES AHEAD IN PHOTO FINISH
For immediate release from the New London-Waterford Speedbowl
WATERFORD – After fighting some opening day bugs, Adam Gada was able to dial in his SK Modified® pretty good for Military Appreciation Night. He started the day winning the heat race and started the race on the pole. He quickly got out to a huge lead over Josh Zentek and Joey Ternullo. While they ran side-by-side, a fast Andrew Molleur made a daring dive by putting himself in second on the board. Gada’s huge lead got cut into and by the halfway point, Molleur was within a car’s length. He’d set up Gada and slingshot by with 10 to go winning in the green to checker race.
Emma Monahan shot off the line in the Late Models but Joey LeMay was first across the stripe on lap 1. Doug Curry gave LeMay a challenge but couldn’t hang as Blast Off winner Devin Deshaies took over on the attack. He and LeMay fought side by side but couldn’t complete the pass, all while Brody Monahan worked into the picture. Deshaies tried a second side by side battle for the lead but contact among the top 3 would send LeMay around. Monahan got the jump on numerous restarts to get to the end, all culminating in a photo finish, giving the win to Deshaies.
Evan Bourgeois got the jump on the start of the SK Lights leaving Robert Bloxsom III and John Brunelle to battle for second. Kali Trapp moved up to third early but enter Nickolas Hovey. Hovey started near the back of the handicap and was carving his way through the field engaging in a battle for second by lap 10. With just 10 to go, the lead Bourgeois had built was erased and he had a mirror full of Hovey. Seven laps on the board and Hovey worked by Bourgeois taking down the win for his first of the season.
Polesitter Ike Chima got swallowed by the Street Stock field at the drop of the green but was able to hang on to the back of the top 5 when he got up to speed. Norm Root III was the first in the lead but Aaron Plemons and last weeks winner Jordan Hadley worked past early. Plemons lead got cut into by Hadley as the laps ticked away but time ran out before Hadley could make a move giving the defending champion his first win on the season already.
The second lap of the Legend Cars spelled trouble for Blast Off winner Brandon Martinez as he and rookie Aubry Wasko made heavy contact with the turn 1 wall. Zachary Martinez then took off from the field on a mission after mechanical woes the week prior. Dylan Freeman settled into second as the laps clicked down while PJ Evans sliced and diced through the field. The drivers maneuvered lapped traffic on a long green flag run that had Evans slip into second. A green, white checkered restart proved no sweat for Zachary as he held off Evans and Riley Paul’s challenge to win.
Scott Cestodio swung by the Speedbowl to dominate the day in the Crown Vics over visitors from Massachusetts and New Hampshire of Chris Knight and Sebastian Janowiec.
Up next the Street Stocks headline the show with their 50-lap main event. It’s also our first Compact Enduro of the season, along with SK Lights, Mini Stocks, Trucks, and INEX Legend Cars.
