MOLLEUR GOES BACK-TO-BACK; SHILOSKY TRUCKS TO FIRST WIN

MOLLEUR GOES BACK-TO-BACK; SHILOSKY TRUCKS TO FIRST WIN

For immediate release from the New London-Waterford Speedbowl

WATERFORD – The SK Modifieds® were slowed as soon as they took off after an incident that parked Paul Kusheba on top of Adam Gada. Rob Janovic Jr led the field after while Andrew Molleur and Joey Ternullo held a contest for second. Molleur made a move under Janovic that didn’t stick, but by lap 10 the same move worked out and Molleur made the pass into the lead. Janovic had his mirror full of Anthony Flannery and Timmy Jordan by halfway. Their battle allowed Janovic to keep a cushion and landed himself on the podium. Keith Rocco also slipped by with the laps ticking down but would run out of time before any sort of challenge could be made. It may have been since May 10th that the headline division took the track, but it was Molleur going home with back-to-back wins.

Emma Monahan led briefly in the Late Models but Shawn Gaedeke quickly took over. Just four laps in Devin Deshaies, who was carving the field up, got together with Gaedeke resetting the field. Monahan back out front was able to clear Kyle Gero on the restart but a returning Jason Palmer dove to the bottom taking the lead. Monahan and Gero fought hard for a second until a lap 12 caution put Monahan to the rear. Palmer aced every restart thereafter, leaving Gero to fight it out with Deshaies for second. In the end, Palmer found himself in victory lane in his first race back this season, and Gero held off Deshaies for second.

Ike Chima clicked off the first few laps of the Street Stocks in the lead. Aaron Plemons had to fight off and attack from Jordan Hadley before making quick work of Chima by lap 5. Plemons sailed to the win picking up his second of the season.

The Trucks roared to life with Cameron Varricchio charging to the lead but almost as soon as that happened, the caution came out for a mechanical failure on Duane Noll’s truck. A couple quick restarts later saw Varricchio get swallowed up by the field, allowing Milania Shilosky and Jake Coutu to run out front. A 5 to go caution changed the complexion of the race slightly as Coutu had his hands full with Charles Beal. Jaysin Beal slipped by their battle while Coutu slid back, all the while leaving Shilosky out front to pick up her first Truck division win.

Randy Churchill launched from the line in the Mini Stocks with David Lee heavy on his back bumper. Lee poked low on Churchill for several laps until he was finally able to get a half car length in and take over the top spot. Lee’s time out front was limited as Ray Christian III, who started in ninth, was glued to the low line and making moves through the field. Chris Garside recovered from a lap 1 checkup and picked off Lee by the halfway point setting his sights on Christian. But in comes Andrew Krzeminski who also came from deep in the field. He reeled in and picked off Garside for second, but the lead Christian built for himself was too great and time ran out. He would score his second win since returning to Mini Stock competition in the caution free event.

Nineteen Legend Cars took to the green flag that saw Wade Oemcke run with the early lead. He took off from the field while Patrick Smith and Parker Davis were fighting it out for second. Dylan Freeman tried an outside pass then crossed over on the pair but couldn’t make it stick while Riley Paul, Brandon, and Zachary Martinez were charging through the pack. Davis and Smith would make contact, erasing the lead Oemcke held on lap 6. Freeman took advantage of the restart giving Oemcke a fight for the top spot, that he would eventually take. By halfway, Brandon Martinez would find himself in second and just 5 laps later he was under Freeman. Martinez cleared Freeman with 7 laps on the board, but a second wind had Freeman back in the mix with 2 to go. His never give up attitude scored him his first win of the season.

Scott Cestodio shot to the lead early in the first of two Crown Vic features. Austin Erickson kept the pressure on Cestodio for the entire race, nipping at his heels. Cestodio didn’t miss his mark to take the first checkered flag of the night. In race 2, Cestodio had to rally to the front in a full field invert. He had a much easier time under the lights as Erickson had a mirror full of Dylan Cabral to deal with. Cestodio swept the night marking three wins in a row.

The Wild ‘n Wacky season kicked off on Sunday that saw PJ Evans and Connor Doyon pick up the INEX National Qualifier wins in Legend Cars and Bandoleros. Ben Pollard began his Super X-Car title defense with a win; Christian Herman won in the X-Cars. Glen Marion Jr added another win to his belt in the Compact Enduro. Sal Accardi took the American Vintage Modified win.

Up next for Speedbowl Saturday Nights, the Northeastern Midget Association is in town with both divisions of high-speed action. They join our SK Modifieds®, SK Lights, Mini Stocks, Trucks, and Crown Vics. But first Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday is full steam ahead with a 4-division program.
