BERNDT GOES BACK TO BACK IN SK MODIFIEDS®; HOVEY EARNS FIFTH SK LIGHT WIN OF THE SEASON IN FRONT OF CAPACITY CROWD

For immediate release from the New London-Waterford Speedbowl

WATERFORD – Adam Gada and Justin Gaydosh charged at the drop of the green in the SK Modifieds® but was met with an immediate melee that pushed Anthony Flannery towards the infield and Gaydosh to the rear. The new front row of Gada and Timmy Jordan didn’t last long either, as after a false start Jordan would get ready for take-off go nearly up and over off the back stretch wall. The third attempt to start the race with Gada had him trying to hold off SK43 winner Eric Berndt. This time Berndt got out front and the field strung out with Gada in second. Todd Owen held a solid third but as the race played out Flannery worked from the rear of the field up to fourth after a short battle with Andrew Molleur. Berndt effortlessly went on to win back-to-back races, and his fourth of the season.

Sami Anderson was able to get out to the early lead in the SK Lights over John Brunelle when the race began and after a lap 2 restart. She would leave the field in her dust with Kali Trapp, but Trapp didn’t hang on long as Evan Bourgeois and Nickolas Hovey were charging on by. A restart on lap 9 allowed Hovey to work by Anderson after a brief side by side battle where he ran to safety. Some light contact with Trapp spelled disaster for the back half of the field, which removed 50 lap winner Robert Bloxsom III (among others) who was already having a rough day in a borrowed ride. Anderson gave Hovey another go but would engage in a gauntlet with Jake Hines that ultimately sent both drivers to the rear. The remainder of the final 10 laps were full of drama but when the dust settled it was Hovey who had stayed safely out front bringing in his 5th win of the season over Bourgeois and Davis.

The Trucks got off to a rough start but Cameron Varricchio set the pace early with Charles Beal and Brad Strickland fighting it out behind him. Strickland had the advantage and set his sights on Varricchio early in the race. On a restart Strickland was able to pull off with Beal and a hard charging Ryan Lineham behind him. Disaster for Strickland as he’d pull over from the lead with a flat tire giving the front row to the pair behind him. Lineham took advantage of his new track position to break out into the lead and run away from the field putting him back on top of the division.

Tim Dorr used his front row starting position to take the early lead in the Mini Stocks with Randy Churchill in his mirror. Both drivers would pull away from the field but Andrew Krzeminski reeled in and picked off Churchill by lap 7. Just 3 laps later he had reeled Dorr in and got to work. Krzeminski worked by Dorr with Ray Christian III now in the picture after starting deep in the field. Dorr took a swipe at the lead but Krzeminski crossed him over to keep control. Christian took advantage of his track position to slip into second and peck away at Krzeminski’s bumper, but time ran out in the caution-free event and Krzeminski earned his first win of the season, and second of his career.

Robert Jones led some laps in the Crown Vics early but Jack Emerson and Austin Erickson had other plans for the race. Emerson kept up his momentum from the week before building a large lead once Erickson’s car had mechanical issues, removing him from the event. Ben Bosowski who was all over Erickson at the time was able to chip away at the lead Emerson had, and for the last half of the race was all over the bumper inside and out. Emerson held on and was able to score back to back wins.

Jake Johnson dominated the end of the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series Belltown Motors/Fowlers Auto Wrecking 100. It  was his second Speedbowl win of his career after a 2020 Legend Car victory.

Next Saturday the Northeastern Midget Association comes back to town for the Shane Hammond Memorial. But before that we’ve got Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday on August 27th, the final mid-week show before they close out their season on Sunday September 7th.
