BLOXSOM’S DOMINANT SK LIGHT 50 PERFORMANCE BOILS DOWN TO PHOTO FINISH

For immediate release from the New London-Waterford Speedbowl

WATERFORD – John Brunelle led the SK Lights to green on their biggest race of the season but it didn’t take long for trouble to hit. Nickolas Hovey met the turn 1 wall on lap 2, which gave Robert Bloxsom III the position to swipe the lead away on a restart over Kali Trapp. Brunelle went around just a few laps later where Bloxsom left the field in his mirror while Trapp got passed by Kevin Davis Jr and Eddie Gomarlo. Davis went to work on Bloxsom but had to settle in line. A couple more cautions slowed the pace off the race at one point erasing a large lead Bloxsom built up. Most notably, Gomarlo and Tyler Chapman got together battling for second making hard contact with the turn 4 wall. The race came down to a 3 lap shootout where Evan Bourgeois gave Bloxsom everything he had, coming up short in a photo finish by just 0.010 seconds. Bloxsom’s big win comes 5 years after his previous win at the Speedbowl.

Al Stone kept it consistent at the start of the Street Stocks where he dove into the lead over Ike Chima. Aaron Plemons and Jordan Hadley made quick work of Chima and got to work on the back bumper of Stone. Plemons was the only one able to make a move looking to the outside by lap 10 but was unable to make a pass. With 5 to go, Stones lead seemed secure as Plemons and Hadley got into a side by side battle where Plemons would nose ahead for second. Stone picked up his second win of the season and career win number 70.

Charles Beal took point in the Trucks and initially left the field in his dust. Ryan Lineham and a returning Tyler Chapman were picking off traffic on their climb to the top until a caution on lap 8 took Chapman out of the running. With Beal’s straightaway lead erased in the blink of an eye, Lineham made quick work around him to take the lead on the restart and from there it was all over. Lineham remains perfect since entering the Truck division going two-for-two.

Bill Sylvia and Erica Canfield engaged in a brief battle to start the Mini Stocks that saw Sylvia get the advantage. He held this position until the halfway point where usual suspects Ray Christian III and Chris Garside were able to clear traffic and cut into his lead. Christian began a side-by-side battle with Sylvia and that’s where they stayed until a couple cautions beginning on lap 16. Christian was able to earn lane choice on a restart where even after another battle with Sylvia, and a three-wide attempt by Garside, he was able to secure win number 5 on the season.

TJ Sansoucy led the Legend Cars to green over Patrick Smith and while Smith tried to claw back it was Sansoucy’s position. Wade Oemcke worked into second but was soon to be under fire by both Dylan Freeman and Riley Paul. Freeman looked to Oemcke’s outside but Paul took that opportunity to dive low and take the lead in one swoop. Freeman reeled Paul back in and turned up the heat until a 10 to go caution. Freeman hung tough on Paul’s outside for just 3 laps when he found himself around having to restart in the rear. On the ensuing restart, trouble for Oemcke collected a few cars as well. Paul was able to take point on the final restart holding off Brandon Martinez to score back to back wins in the division.

On Sunday, Connor Doyon picked up Bandolero win number 3 on the season. Jacob Burns is on a hot streak with 5 wins in a row in the Legend Cars. Christian Herman and Ben Pollard also scored their fourth wins on the season in the X-Cars and Super X-Cars.      Joseph Paquette won the first Truck/SUV Enduro of the season, and Nick Woodside picked up a big win in the 100 lap Compact Enduro main event.

Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday takes to the track this week with a 4 division card headlined by a 40 lap Super X-Car main event. Then on Saturday it’s the 3rd annual Bill Greco/Terry Baribeault Memorial SK 43.
