OWEN AND BOURGEOIS FIND VICTORY LANE FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS SEASON
For immediate release from the New London-Waterford Speedbowl
WATERFORD – After rebuilding from the week before, Tim Jordan took to the point in the SK Modified® feature. He didn’t get a chance to relax with the field nipping at his heels. Todd Owen took down the lead quick while a returning Keith Rocco worked his way towards the front. A caution on lap 11 gave Rocco the opportunity to get by Owen and lead some laps. Owen kept the pressure on and tried getting around Rocco, but Eric Berndt had different plans. He dove underneath and picked up the lead but it was short lived. A caution shortly after the lead change for Rocco saw the black flag handed to Berndt, giving Owen the lead back. Owen held on to the lead over the closing stages picking up his first win this season.
From the drop of the green in the SK Lights, Evan Bourgeois was on a mission. He took off leaving Tyler Chapman in his dust and building a big lead in the early stages of the race. Kevin Davis and Nickolas Hovey moved through the field, but Hovey flexed his muscle getting by both Davis and Chapman. As the laps ticked down in the caution free event, Hovey inched closer and closer to Bourgeois, erasing the lead he built. Contact from Hovey on the final corner came and Bourgeois was able to impressively maintain control of his car, and the defending champion secured his first win of the season.
Ike Chima had his hands full at the helm of the Street Stock field. Division win leader Al Stone III dove underneath Chima to try and take down the lead early but Chima didn’t back down. They would trade positions in a side by side battle with Aaron Plemons laying in wait. Chima cleared Stone not once but twice to resume control of the lead, but would soon engage in a battle with Plemons. Their side by side battle lasted until 3 to go where Plemons had the advantage and pulled away from Chima and Joe Arena, winning his seventh of the season.
Patrick Smith started the Legend Car race in control but was under immediate pressure from Dylan Freeman to his outside. Seemingly out of nowhere, Zachary Martinez and PJ Evans dove underneath Smith and Freeman’s side by side battle and ran off into the lead. Evans maintained control of the event as laps ticked down but had to worry about a hard-charging Jacob Burns. The two drivers had a commanding lead over Martinez in third, but Burns ran out of laps before he could set up an attack giving Evans his second win of the season.
The Crown Vics were met with a lap 1 incident that sent Gregg Prevost III around and Robert Jones pit side for a flat tire. Stephen Bolinger and Jake Caprio took over the race but Caprio would run for cover. Bolinger held off Jack Emerson for a brief moment but Emerson got by, setting his sights on Caprio who had built up a large lead. By halfway, Emerson was on Caprio’s bumper and began nipping at his heels. It didn’t take long for Emerson to get by and he’d go on to win his third race in a row.
Brayden Egan won his first NEMA Midget feature, and Drew Eldridge picked up his first NEMA Lite feature all in the same night for the Shane Hammond Memorial.
On Wednesday, Jacob Burns scored his seventh Legend Car win in a row. Norm Sears scored his first Super X-Car win. Ryder Aguiar went back to back in the Bandoleros and Christian Herman won in the X-Cars.
