GLUCHACKI INVADES AT THE SHORE WITH DOMINANT LATE MODEL PERFORMANCE; HIGH FIVE FOR THE HIGH ROLLER AS MOLL EUR EXTENDS SK MODIFIED® POINT LEAD
For immediate release from the New London-Waterford Speedbowl
WATERFORD – Todd Owen got out to a strong start in the SK Modifieds® leaving Tim Jordan and Adam Gada in his rearview mirror to sort it out for second. A line of cars led by Jordan shuffled Gada back, opening the door for a spirited battle between Jordan, Rob Janovic Jr., and Eric Berndt. Janovic held tough when Berndt got to his outside, but disaster would strike on lap 15 when Berndt got shuffled outside three-wide out of turn two, taking him out of the race with Keith Rocco. Owen nosed ahead on the next restart after a short battle with Jordan to regain control of the race, but now Andrew Molleur’s climb to the front was full steam ahead. Molleur crossed Jordan over with just over 10 laps to go for second, and just a couple laps later he was back in the lead. Molleur went on to win his fifth race of the season in seven starts.
The Late Models had their annual 100 lap main event this past weekend that drew 18 cars to the shoreline oval. When the green flag flew the race was initially led by Shawn Gaedeke until Derek Gluchacki and Brody Monahan both took him down just 8 laps in. Gluchacki was able to gap Monahan after breaking into the lead as Ryan Kuhn started working his way towards the front in traffic where he got up to third on lap 26. The first caution flew just 2 laps later but didn’t prove as a threat to Gluchacki. On the next restart just a few laps later, mechanical woes sent Monahan backwards in traffic as Kuhn slid into second. A couple cautions around lap 60 took a few cars out of contention, and injuring others including Gaedeke and Derryck Anderson Jr who were dueling it out for third. Anderson recovered from this incident and worked his way into the top 5 while Truck regular Tyler Chapman had a strong car at the end and found himself on the podium. Devin Deshaies took advantage of the cautions to head into the pits to improve his ride, leaving with a fourth place finish. But at the front, nobody had anything for Gluchacki who held a straightaway lead over Kuhn, who also had a straightaway lead over Chapman. Gluchacki won the 2024 edition of this race as well, and it was his first Speedbowl start this season.
Back from a week off, the SK Lights were led to green by Sami Anderson from the outside groove. Her, Nickolas Hovey, and Tyler Chapman broke away from the field with Hovey going to work immediately down low on Anderson. He slipped into the lead on lap 5 leaving Anderson in his mirror and Chapman to duke it out with Kevin Davis. The first signs of trouble didn’t hit until 6 laps to go for a single car spin, but Hovey shot out of the front row like a cannon. Chapman used this opportunity to slip past Anderson for second, both pulling away from Davis. Hovey took down the win by half of a straightaway, making it his third of the season.
A healthy field of 18 Trucks descended on the Speedbowl led by Brad Strickland who got the jump outside of Austin Long. Jordan Hadley brought his Truck out while the Street Stocks were off and made quick work of Long for second. Ryan Lineham who has many wins in Open Street Stock and Late Model competition debuted in the Trucks, and the team brought a fast piece to the track. Strickland had a bit of a buffer as Lineham got to work on Hadley, making quick work on the outside after the inside lane never opened up. Lap 10 the caution flew putting Lineham outside of Strickland on the front row, and from there it was all over. Lineham went on to win over Strickland, and Long was able to fight off Milania Shilosky to pick up his first podium of the season.
Sean Olden was able to hang in there below Erica Canfield to lead a good amount of laps during his rookie campaign in the Mini Stocks. She crossed Olden over and had a brief side by side battle until Charles Canfield and Ray Christian III entered the picture at a fast rate. Olden held the lead down until a restart with 18 to go, where he got swallowed up by the field opening the door for Charles. He, Christian, and Chris Garside took off from the field for just a couple laps before Christian worked his way into the lead. Trouble with Charles sent him backwards as a separate incident drew the yellow just four laps later. Christian, Garside, and now Andrew Krzeminski left the field in their dust, with Christian picking up the win for the fourth time this season.
The biggest field of Crown Vics to date took to the track at Sunset led by Robert Jones and Jack Emerson. The next driver of the 01, Bryson Robidoux, made a bold three-wide move under Jones on lap 1 that allowed him to take the lead early. Jake Caprio would move into second and reel in Robidoux, making a few swipes at his back bumper, but not having enough momentum to start a pass. A restart at halfway gave Caprio a closer shot at the lead, but the story was the same. Robidoux went on to win as the third different driver behind the wheel of that car, adding to his resume that includes two Bandolero wins.
On Wednesday, Corey Caddick edged out Brandon Plemons in a photo finish at the end of the 40 lap X-Car special. Ben Pollard and Jacob Burns both scored another win the Super X-Car and Legend Car divisions, and Allyha DeSomma picked up her first win of the season in the Bandoleros.
Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday takes to the track this week with a 4 division card, then on Saturday the Pro 4 Modifieds are back in town! August 2nd is also our first Autograph August Session where fans can meet the stars of the Street Stock, Late Model, and Crown Vic divisions.
