BERNDT BRINGS HOME THE HARDWARE IN GRECO/BARIBEAULT SK43; GARSIDE CLAIMS MINI STOCK BOUNTY
For immediate release from the New London-Waterford Speedbowl
WATERFORD – It was the 3rd Annual Bill Greco/Terry Baribeault Memorial SK43 boasting a $2,500 to win main event. Dave Baribeault kicked off the event and two of Greco’s former race cars paced the field to green. Josh Zentek made heavy contact with the turn 3 wall to kick off the event. Justin Gaydosh was overtaken by Anthony Flannery almost immediately when they went back green with Eric Berndt following through. Andrew Molleur made quick work of the field and found himself on their back bumpers until a lap 10 caution allowed for Timmy Jordan and Jon Puleo to work by Molleur. After a caution with 29 to go, Flannery got passed for the lead and found himself out of shape, but as he collected it Puleo had gone around. Flannery hit the ground running on the next restart but it didn’t last long as Berndt sailed into the lead with 24 to go. After getting pushed into the pits, Puleo returned and was notably cruising through the field. As laps ticked down and with Berndt safely in front of Flannery, Puleo went from last all the way into second by lap 40 with no time left to challenge for the lead. Berndt scored the big pay day and picked up his third win of the season.
Shawn Gaedeke inherited the pole for the Late Models on a lap 0 spin, but his time on top didn’t last long as Devin Deshaies made quick work of him around the outside. Ryan Morgan returned for the first time this season and was a force to be reckoned with moving into second by lap 5. Gaedeke would then fight it out with Joey LeMay for third and hold off a couple strong attempts at the spot while the field strung out. A solo spin with 8 to go set the race up for an exciting finish though. Morgan launched by Deshaies on the restart but an immediate caution took the lead away. Morgan had done it again a second time but Deshaies crossed over to fight for the lead back. After a side-by-side battle at the helm Deshaies and Morgan made contact but Morgan was able to power away as the laps ticked down. Morgan picked up the win in his first start of the season.
Jordan Hadley had the advantage over Ike Chima at the start of the Street Stocks, taking Aaron Plemons along with him. Plemons stuck a nose underneath Hadley early but when the hole closed he went to work on the outside. The two stayed side by side for nearly the whole race until the cross-over moves began. This time it was 5 lead changes over the final few laps that looked like Hadley had it won until a dive bomb move from Plemons allotted him his 6th win of the season.
Jake Coutu followed Charles Beal out front in the Trucks over Tommy Silva but the battle for the lead wouldn’t be between them for long. Ryan Lineham worked from deep in the field making moves on the outside that seemed easy to the naked eye. He pulled into the lead on lap 6 and set his truck on cruise control. Everything seemed status quo until 4 to go when Lineham fell off the pace unable to make it to the infield and bringing out the yellow. With Beal back out front, he had a new challenge to go up against. Nicholas Uhrig Jr had also been working his way through the field under green, but now he had a shot at the lead. He hung wide over the final few laps and was able to clear Beal winning in just his third start in the division. He had also won in the Bandoleros in 2024.
Erica Canfield and Tim Dorr set the pace in the Mini Stocks but it didn’t last when a lap 2 caution racked the field up before they could settle in. Dorr resumed control but Randy Churchill and Bill Sylvia were on the move. Sylvia took the lead and brought Chris Garside with him while Ray Christian III worked his way to the front. Garside spent most of the race in a side by side battle with Sylvia and even held on when a three-wide attempt by Christian failed. Garside recovered and picked Sylvia off with Christian, getting bump-drafted across the stripe to win his third of the season.
TJ Sansoucy and Cal Anderson led the Legend Cars to green but it didn’t take long for Wade Oemcke to attempt a 3-wide move for the top spot. However, the move would not pay off. Oemcke and Sansoucy would go around on lap 3 giving the lead to Anderson on the restart. Dylan Freeman took advantage of the track position and resumed the race at the point with Riley Paul in his tire tracks. A caution on lap 7 flew when Sansoucy’s bad night turned worse making hard contact with the wall in turn 2. On the restart, Paul had the edge over Freeman and while Brandon Martinez made his presence known, it wasn’t enough. Paul went on to win his third race in a row.
Jack Emerson shot out to an early lead in the Crown Vics from previous winners Gregg Prevost III and Jake Caprio and ran for cover in the 20 lap feature. He took down his first career win in dominating fashion.
On a cloudy Wednesday evening, Ben Pollard scored his second 40-lap Super X-Car win of the season. Brandon Plemons and Ryder Aguiar returned to victory lane in the X-Cars and Bandoleros, and Jacob Burns scored his sixth win in a row in the Legend Cars.
Next Saturday, the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series takes to the shoreline oval for their annual stop for the Belltown Motors/Fowlers Auto Wrecking 100. They will be joined by the SK Modifieds®, SK Lights, Trucks, Mini Stocks, and Crown Vics. But before that we’ve got Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday on August 20th.
