RAPPOCCIO LANDS FIRST SPEEDBOWL VICTORY MOMENTS BEFORE SKIES OPENED

For immediate release from the New London-Waterford Speedbowl

WATERFORD – Aaron Plemons got to the lead in the Late Models over Jason Palmer and Shawn Gaedeke. Palmer made a move and slipped by the outside of Plemons before lap 10, and Gaedeke worked underneath after halfway. Plemons didn’t let up with Gaedeke and the two kept swapping positions until the two made contact with 10 to go. Palmer now led Diego Monahan and Ray Christian III at the front. A few cautions kept the pace slowed but when the final run formed Palmer and Monahan put on a side-by-side battle for the ages. Monahan would slip up and tuck in behind Palmer as rain drops started forming. The race was called official with 4 laps to go as rains soaked the racing surface.

After the light sprinkle, the track was dried quickly and the Trucks hit the track for their 25 lap feature. Charles Beal took point over Mason Silva but Ryan Lineham was already on a mission. Seven laps in, Lineham went up and around the outside of Beal. Beal didn’t back down and kept the heat on for several laps until Lineham opened up the gap and went on to win. Beal was able to hang on to second keeping Jake Coutu in his rearview for third.

The SK Lights hit the track with some dark clouds looming. Vinny Rappoccio, fresh off his heat race win, took to the point first over Leo Nunes with Kevin Davis and Jordan Hadley keeping the pressure turned on. The field looked to be on cruise control until lap 10 when Nunes dove underneath Rappoccio and took over the lead. Hadley kept his nose in to follow. Disaster on lap 18 took Hadley out of contention, but it also gave Rappoccio a chance to take a swing at the lead. With both drivers looking for their first wins, he would throw it under Nunes and take the lead once more to earn the win. While celebrating the win in victory lane, the skies opened up and the event was over.

Jack Emerson picked up his second Crown Vic win of the season after diving to the lead when the green flag dropped and ran away from the field. Jake Caprio tried a three-wide move at the get-go but it didn’t stick. He rounded out the podium with last weeks winner Robert Jones finishing second.
