Newcomb Scores First Legend Car Win

Newcomb Scores First Legend Car Win

For Immediate Release

WATERFORD CT — Weather has played a factor in the 2022 Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday schedule, and for the first time this season races have been completed two weeks in a row, and it was a treat for the fans in the stands.  Isaiah Newcomb captured his first INEX Legend Car win, Devin Tate scored his first win of the season in the Super X-Cars, Pete Zaikarite went three in a row in X-Car action, and Milania Shilosky won a barn burner of a INEX Bandolero race.

The X-Cars kicked off the evening with Wade Robbins getting the lead early and defending it from Tim Burgess while staying in the high line around the Speedbowl.  Several strange occurrences of right front tires going flat drew the caution flag, setting up a few race restarts.  All the while, Pete Zaikarite was dicing his way through traffic from his 8th place starting spot mainly from the high side, but ultimately making the bottom shot pass for the lead with 8 to go. When another car lost a tire, Zaikarite chose the outside groove on the final restart with 6 to go and stayed in a 1 lap drag race until he finally cleared Robbins and pulled away.  Dylan Cabral would move into 2nd place after the restart, and Chuck Mcdonald made a last lap pass on Robbins for third.

Putting on one of the most intense and cleanest races of the evening were the Bandoleros.  Last weeks winner Bradley Strickland started on the front row with point leader Milania Shilosky directly behind him.  Shilosky pushed Strickland into the lead but almost immediately pulled up into the outside groove as the 2 cars pulled away from the field.  The pair ran side by side for nearly all of the 20 laps, with Trenton Starkweather and Allyha DeSomma drafting to catch the two runaways.  While Shilosky led most of the laps from the outside line, it was unclear who had the advantage during the race with both cars having strong and weak points around the track.  In the end, Shilosky made it 3 on the season winning by 0.011 seconds.

It was a rocky start to the Super X-Cars with 2 chaotic incidents to kick off the race, leading to 4 cars being sidelined on lap 3. But once the race got in its groove, it ran the final 22 laps green and clear.  Devin Tate powered out front as a redemption story from the week before when he had the race all but won, but a yellow came out.  This time around, the top 4 cars of Tate, Don Berge, Dave Yardley, and Mitch Bombard pulled away from the rest of the field, none with a clear advantage over the other.  Tate took the checkered flag and put an end to Yardley’s undefeated streak in 2022 for his first win of the season.

A scary incident on the front straight kicked off the Legend Cars, when on lap 5 two strong competitors of Shileigh Martinez and Wade Oemcke were taken out of contention.  After the restart Isaiah Newcomb launched into the lead and was able to hold on for his first career win in the division with multi time winner Zachary Martinez and 2021 Champion Jacob Burns hot on his tail.

Paul Jacques won the 25 Lap American Vintage Modified race.
