PULEO GOES BACK TO BACK; HADLEY, JONES & SILVIA ALL SCORE FIRST WINS
For immediate release from the New London-Waterford Speedbowl
WATERFORD – Adam Gada got leap-frogged by Keith Rocco at the start of the SK Modified® race just to be met with an immediate caution after one lap was in the
books. Gada would fall back as Rocco tried to hold on as Timmy Jordan and Todd Owen were now in his mirror. Another caution shortly after saw Rocco stay out front for a few more laps until Jordan broke free and took over the lead. Last week’s 50 lap winner Jon Puleo started from deep in the field but by halfway he was already up battling for the top spot working by Rocco, Owen, and Anthony Flannery. With thirteen laps on the board, Puleo took over the top spot and cruised on to earn back-to-back victories.
A good field of Late Models entered the pit area and after a qualifying win, Shawn Gaedeke looked to continue that momentum into the feature. That momentum would be shifted after leading the first lap when the caution flew. Ray Christian III and Brody Monahan rocketed into the lead on the restart until another caution 5 laps later put the front-runners against each other. Christian got the jump but Monahan immediately went to work down low. Their fierce battle at the point allowed Jason Palmer to sit back and wait for an opportunity. He got one and dove under Monahan giving Christian sole position of the lead. A restart later in the race would set up the same suspects and show the same result as Christian held on for his third win of the season.
Will Anderson led Jordan Hadley when the SK Lights began but that lead didn’t last long. Hadley got by and set the pace
by lap 4 with Robert Bloxsom III, Kevin Davis, and Kevin Cormier lurking. The field strung out until an incident with Davis and Cormier hurt both of their runs and stacked the field back up. Hadley held on strong with Bloxsom using this opportunity to move into second as the field spread out again. Anderson held on to the podium after some pressure from Brett Gonyaw. The win would be Hadley’s first open-wheeled win and in his 5th different division at the Speedbowl.
Adam Coutu clicked off a few laps leading the Street Stocks but had a mirror full of Jon Porter to worry about. Porter worked his way by and while the battle for the lead was going on, Chad Baxter and Al Stone III had already caught up. Baxter got to Porter’s bumper and nipped away at it beginning on lap 5. Baxter kept the heat turned up as Aaron Plemons who was in a special start got by Stone and entered this mix. Plemons gave the battle for the lead some spice with a three-wide attempt that only gave Porter some breathing room. Baxter survived the move and got back to work on Porter, finally getting underneath him with two laps to go. In the final turn, contact between the two sent them both up the banking and opened the door for Plemons to pick up the win after leading for only half a straightaway.
A lot of activity in the Legend Cars kept shaking up the running order and while it started and ended with Patrick Smith, that’s not who would cross the stripe first.
He got an early lead over Dylan Freeman. Freeman got to Smith’s bumper when a lap 5 caution stacked the field back up, now with Ethan Avellar, Devin Deshaies, and Chase Silvia in the mix. Contact between Freeman and Avellar sent them both back in the field setting up Deshaies against Smith for the top spot. The two would drag race for the lead when contact between the two sent Deshaies hard in the wall. With Smith relegated to the rear, Silvia took over the lead. Behind him, Wade Oemcke and Ryan Pomposelli began a battle for second and by this time Freeman was back up front. A restart put Freeman back against Silvia in a battle for the lead that would only last one lap, but it was enough for a lead change. The battle for the lead turned intense as contact between the two resulted in Freeman moving to the back once more. Silvia lost the lead to Smith once more on the final lap but the car wouldn’t stick and Silvia crossed over to pick up hist first Speedbowl win.
Jaxson Gertsch got out front in the Crown Vics first but that only made it to the end of the back straight when he found himself turned around in front of the whole field. Robert Jones took advantage of the scramble that did not draw a caution and quickly built himself a strong lead over point leader Jake Caprio. Jones kept hitting his marks out front keeping a safe distance from Caprio as the field strung out, with Gregg Prevost III making the most moves deeper in the field. Minus the one hiccup, the race ran off without a hitch and Jones scored his first career win.
Danny Gill from Maine picked up the 75 lap Compact Enduro that featured 51 entries.
Thursday Night Thunder came back with Sean Skinner and Christian Herman picking up their second wins of the season with the Super X-Cars and X-Cars. Jacob Burns slipped in and came out with the Legend Car win, and Ryder Aguiar scored the Bandolero win.
Next Saturday is Military Appreciation Night where all members past and present can enjoy $10 grandstand admission, then of course we’ve got Thursday Night Thunder with our four weekly divisions.
