TIMMY JORDAN BLASTS OFF ON SPEEDBOWLS 75th SEASON; CLOSE FINISHES A THEME
For immediate release from the New London-Waterford Speedbowl
WATERFORD – Fans and drivers gathered on a rainy cool morning to kick off The Speedbowl’s 75th season of racing. It was looking grim
early on as sprinkles persisted during the drivers meeting, but the track crew was able to get the track dried off and after cutting a round of practice the delay was minimal.
It’s been awhile since Mikey Flynn took laps around the Speedbowl but you would never know it as he started off strong in the 75 lap SK Modified® main event. He got the jump over 2025 SK Light champion Nickolas Hovey and all-time win leader Keith Rocco. There was one caution to slow the event on lap 6 that Flynn was able to hang on to the lead for at first. Rocco and Todd Owen were able to work by Hovey on their path to the front. Timmy Jordan started to enter the picture just short of half way coming from his mid-pack starting position to move into second by lap 23. Rocco started to fade and Owen moved into the third spot, and by lap 33 Jordan had complete control of the race. The rest of the laps would be run caution free and Jordan would start the season off with the big win. Testing was the key thing said Jordan of his run.
The Late Models started their race off fierce with Jordan Hadley and Diego Monahan engaged in a side-by-side battle that spanned about 6 laps. Monahan won the battle and Hadley had to deal with Ray Christian III next. Christian wasted no time moving into the lead on lap 9 and that was almost the end of his story. Jason Palmer and Shawn Gaedeke maneuvered their way through the field as laps were ticking down, but Palmer would be the one to chip away at Christians lead the most. He was able to close in to about a car length but ran out of time to make a move at the top spot. The 2025 Mini Stock champion was reunited with his old car thanks to car owner Bo Norman.
2025 SK Light Rookie of the Year Kevin Davis took the immediate lead over a returning Brett Gonyaw and rookie Vinny Rappoccio.
Caution on lap 8 didn’t stop Davis as he and Rappoccio led Gonyaw and Bob Charland. A caution at halfway was the catalyst for a string of incidents with lengthy cleanup times, removing strong competitors like Charland from the field with 10 laps to go. Gonyaw and Kevin Cormier took over the top spot leaving Davis in third, but only for a couple laps. The two got together hard in turn 3 with seven laps to go, giving Davis his lead back. He would then go uncontested the rest of the way to the finish with Rappoccio in the runner up position, and Robert Bloxsom III coming from a near last place starting spot to round out the podium.
Former Super X Car competitors turned Street Stock drivers Jon Porter and Greg Moran Jr. led the newly reworked division to green with Porter having the edge. The rest of the field bobbled on the start but to no surprise it was Al Stone III moving into second. Stone engaged in a battle for the lead that Porter was able to hold off at first. Stone’s second battle went his way as he took over the lead by lap 10, but now Chad Baxter had caught the two. Stone built up about a straightaway lead over a fierce battle between Porter and Baxter that was eliminated when the only caution flew with 5 laps to go. This set up a legendary battle with Baxter diving underneath Stone and Porter, crossing Stone up and handing the lead to the latter. Two laps later Stone got his nose back in and was able to claw back to win his first of the season.
Duane Noll and Jaysin Beal started off the Truck race strong pulling away from the field in just a short 5 laps, but the caution would fly for rookie Sylar Haberli. A quick caution for Brad Caddick would fly putting the heat on the front row once more. Noll and Beal stayed
side-by-side for awhile until Noll was finally able to get the edge. Andy Pellegrini and Ryan Lineham progressed forward picking off Beal and getting to work on Noll. A caution with 11 to go put Pellegrini in position to take over the top spot as Noll got absorbed into the rest of the field. The large lead Pellegrini built for himself got quickly eaten up by Lineham and with just 3 to go the lead was handed over.
Charles Canfield led a returning John Bavolacco when the green flag dropped for the Mini Stocks, but that would only last one lap as the yellow would fly. On lap 3 Bavolacco moved by Canfield using the outside groove and a returning Nate Taylor followed along. Andrew Krzeminski began his battle with Canfield as a result, but on lap 6 the caution would fly again. Taylor would lead the way with Krzeminski in his tire tracks. Just as Krzeminski began to make a move the caution flew just after halfway. They with Sam Mesick and Bavolacco locked in a side-by-side battle for the top spot and after a short shootout Krzeminski would be the one hoisting the checkered flag in victory lane.
Zachary Martinez’s path to Legend Car victory may have started from the pole position but he had to work hard to keep it. Dylan
Freeman put the pressure on when the green flag dropped but Ethan Avellar made quick work of Freeman and try for the lead. Lap 8 saw the first caution and that gave Freeman the opportunity to move back into second and resume where he left off earlier. Caution just short of halfway introduced defending champion Riley Paul to the mix. He and Avellar got between Martinez and Freeman with the laps counting down. After all the pressure in his mirror, Martinez wouldn’t be denied and went on to keep the Blast Off trophy in the family for the third year in a row.
After picking up his first heat race win Robert Jones led the Crown Vic field like a man on a mission. Jack Emerson, Chase Curtis, and second heat race winner Jake Caprio were fighting it out further back in the field. An early caution put Jones under pressure and Emerson made quick work around his outside. Caprio and Curtis were also able to slip forward while Emerson built up a decent sized lead. Caprio chiseled away at the top spot and after a brief side by side battle, he was able to take down the win.
