CHRISTIAN CAPITALIZES FOR WIN NUMBER FOUR; BAXTER SWEEPS THE DAY

CHRISTIAN CAPITALIZES FOR WIN NUMBER FOUR; BAXTER SWEEPS THE DAY

For immediate release from the New London-Waterford Speedbowl

WATERFORD – Shawn Gaedeke was looking for a rebound race after some hard luck this season, so when the green flag dropped in the Late Models and he ran, it just made sense. Jason Palmer quickly slipped into second by Diego Monahan and began chipping away at Gaedeke’s inside. The two put on a side-by-side battle for much of the 30-lap feature where Gaedeke only lost the lead once. That was until the two got together on the final lap, sending Palmer to the rear and Gaedeke to the pit area. Ray Christian III who was in a distant third with Diego Monahan now became the front row for a green-white-checker finish. Christian chose the outside on the restart and held on after Monahan slid up the banking. The door then opened for Brian Tagg to throw his hat in the ring under Monahan, but contact between the two sent Tagg into a 360 spin that he kept going after to finish 5th. Christian easily picked up the win after the incident with Aaron Plemons capitalizing on the second place finish.

Adam Coutu turned some fast laps in Street Stock practice so it was no surprise when he showed some strength when the first feature went green. He powered ahead of Bill Rheaume but was immediately faced with the combo of Al Stone III and Chad Baxter. Baxter got underneath Stone for a few laps as Coutu worked on building a lead, but it only delayed the inevitable. By lap 7, Baxter caught Coutu’s tail. One lap later? In the lead. Coutu hung in there for a side-by-side battle but couldn’t hang on after Stone and Greg Moran Jr worked their way into the picture. The field would string out in that order and Baxter would pick up the first win of the night.

The second feature showed more of the same. This time with Rheaume taking the initial lead over Coutu, that only lasted a lap. Coutu took the lead over Stone once more with Baxter navigating to an early third. Stone would get under Coutu taking Baxter and Moran with him. A restart set up a side by side battle between Stone and Baxter for a few laps until Baxter powered around the outside. The same three drivers would eventually cross the stripe in the same order as they did with the sun out earlier in the day, with Baxter sweeping the Street Stocks.

Off his heat race win, Charles Beal got the jump over Dylan Cabral on the Truck start. Problem being, Ryan Lineham was right behind him. The two separated themselves from the rest of the field as Tyler Chapman had to work his way through traffic from deeper in the field. Chapman managed to slip into third and eat away at the front pair very easily, but the caution would fly as he did. Beal tried to hold off Lineham on the restart but that opened the door for Chapman to work into the lead. However, this didn’t stick as the caution flew for an incident deeper in the field. Next time by, Lineham cleared Beal and took sole possession of the lead. Not long after, Chapman also worked his way into second and the three would run nose to tail ahead of the hornets’ nest for fourth for the remainder of the race giving Lineham his 5th win of the season.

The first of two Mini Stock features began with a side by side battle between Tim Dorr and Erica Canfield that was cut short when contact with Bill Sylvia sent her around. Dorr was now met with Sean Olden at the front row with multi-time winner Andrew Krzeminski on Dorr’s bumper. Krzeminski’s patience ran out and after a three wide move on lap 8 he took over the lead. Behind him Charles Canfield would enter the picture moving by Olden and Dorr, slipping into second. All seemed locked up until water on the track slowed the pace. Canfield used this restart to power by Krzeminski and take sole possession of the lead, and eventually the win.

When the mighty Mini Stocks rolled out for their second race of the evening, the show was all Bill Sylvia’s. Taking the lead from his pole position, he would clear Nate Taylor and quickly build up a lead over Dorr. Taylor would slip into a battle for third with Sam Mesick, Krzeminski, and first race winner Charles Canfield. Mesick would secure third for awhile holding off some attacks by Krzeminski, until he was able to get a nose underneath and work by Mesick with Canfield in his tracks. Seven to go, the large lead Sylvia built up was eliminated when the caution flew. He stayed strong on the restart continuing his dominance on the race leaving Dorr to battle with Krzeminski for second. Dorr would lose that battle but keep a podium position as Sylvia led all 25 laps to score his first win of the season.

Parker Davis took control of the Legend Car race as the green flag dropped. A restart a few laps in set Dylan Freeman up to his outside where the two battled for the lead. Contact between the two sent them both to the rear and took dominant Thursday competitor Jacob Burns out of the race. PJ Evans and KJ Rocco inherited the lead and they would string out ahead of Patrick Smith. A restart just after halfway had Dylan Freeman back in the mix. Evans would fire off over Rocco and Freeman slipped by Smith. Freeman would work his way to second and after a restart with four to go the two battled fiercely. Freeman took a stab at Evans’ back bumper coming out of the final corner and dove underneath resulting in a photo finish with Evans ahead by 0.045 seconds.

Gregg Prevost III tried to lead the first lap of the Crown Vics but Jake Caprio attempting a three-wide move delayed his progress. Prevost kept ahead of Jaxon Gertsch who would spin the next time by, setting him up against Caprio on the restart. Caprio rifled off and Prevost got together with Jack Emerson not long after with a flat right rear tire. No caution was thrown thanks to the drivers leaving the racing surface with haste, and Caprio went on to easily pick up win number 5 over Jaxon Gertsch and Cole Curtis.

The Super X-Cars gathered with a few local Pure Stocks for a 25 lap exhibition to showcase what we have to offer on Thursday Night Thunder. 3-time champion Ben Pollard had his car dormant so far in 2026, but was able to take it out for the Saturday show. He started outside pole and made a cross over on lap 1 to wrestle the lead away from Bill Reiman. After a few laps of recovery, Reiman worked his way back up and under Pollard to engage in a battle for the lead. The two ran side-by-side for a handful of laps until Pollard cleared and started building his lead. In the closing stages with lapped traffic coming into play, the caution would fly for a spin with just 4 laps to go. Pollard’s straightaway lead was erased but he was able to pick up where he left off at the front, while Ray Reed who battled from a deep starting spot worked by Reiman for second at the line. It was Pollard’s first start of the season that resulted in a win.

On Thursday, John Nunes picked up a popular first career win in the Super X-Cars. Christian Herman and Jacob Burns continued their dominance in the X-Cars and Legend Cars. Everett Millard scored his first Bandolero win in race 1, and Landon Heim picked up the second win while Carl Kivisto won the American Vintage Modifieds.

Up next at the Speedbowl is the Right of Way Solutions 200! 50 laps for SK Modifieds®, 40 laps for SK Lights, 35 for the Street Stocks, lead the way for a big night of racing. But before that we’ve got Thursday Night Thunder with our four weekly divisions and Big Wheels for the kids.
