FLANNERY MAKES LATE RACE DASH TO STEAL MODIFIED WIN; CHARLES BEAL TRUCKS AHEAD IN TWO LAP SHOOTOUT

FLANNERY MAKES LATE RACE DASH TO STEAL MODIFIED WIN; CHARLES BEAL TRUCKS AHEAD IN TWO LAP SHOOTOUT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FROM THE NEW LONDON-WATERFORD SPEEDBOWL

WATERFORD CT – The SK Modified® race kicked off with Keith Rocco shooting out the gate over Adam Gada. Gada couldn’t hang on after a lap 5 incident setting up Rocco against Anthony Flannery on the front row. A wreck on the restart took Blast Off winner Timmy Jordan, and rookie Nickolas Hovey out of the way. Flannery chased Rocco for a majority of the race, keeping the action within a car length as Rob Janovic Jr and Todd Owen fought for third. Flannery kept the chrome horn on Rocco giving him shot after shot, and all looked bleak until just two to go. Janovic was able to reel in the duo with their late race antics but that was when Flannery made the race winning move to the inside. He had got passed Rocco and Janovic was able to hold him to the outside to finish runner up.

Ryan Charland led the first couple laps of the SK Light race until an incident occurred sending the whole field in every direction to try and avoid mayhem. Bob Charland would take the lead over holding off Ian Nunes. Lap seven saw some more devastation taking Kevin Cormier out of contention along with Leo Nunes and Blast Off winner Kevin Davis. Charland kept control of the race over Robert Bloxsom III and rookie Vinny Rappoccio. Disaster for Will Anderson and Ian Nunes with 10 to go allowed Bloxsom the opportunity to take over the lead from Charland. Rappoccio was able to move into second with 6 to go as the rest of the race was run without incident giving Bloxsom his first win with the Marvin Racing team in just 2 starts.

The Late Models saw Jordan Hadley take the early lead with Shawn Gaedeke all in his mirror. Jason Palmer came out of seemingly nowhere to pass the pair around the outside making it look easy. Diving underneath the two before halfway was Diego Monahan and Glen Thomas to fight it out for the podium. Thomas didn’t hang out behind Monahan long as he got by on lap 9 and set his sights on Palmer. He would chip away at the large lead but ultimately run out of time giving Palmer his first win of the season.

After a power steering failure at Blast Off, Greg Moran Jr. kicked off the Street Stock feature on a mission. His return to the division had him lead the early portion of the race ahead of Chad Baxter, Jon Porter, and Al Stone III. Six laps in, Baxter threw it around the outside of Moran and that was all she wrote. Baxter ran away from the field as Stone and Porter battled it out for third. When Stone was all done with that battle he was able to get underneath and by Moran for second.

Brad Caddick picked up the heat race win earlier in the day for the Trucks and was able to start the feature with the same momentum. He built a huge lead over Jake Coutu and Charles Beal until a caution around halfway really tipped the race off its scales. Caddick cleared for the lead but Coutu crossed over and began a side by side battle with Beal and Ryan Lineham chomping at the bit. Coutu clears and as Caddick tries to fight back, contact is made with the top runners and Caddick would leave the race on the hook. Jaysin Beal would go around at the front of the field on the next restart but remarkably everyone avoided him. But the next restart would see Lineham make some heavy contact with the turn 3 wall, ending his day. When racing resumed, Charles Beal fell back a little and Andy Pellegrini was now on the charge. He made quick work of Coutu and took control of the race until an incident with 2 to go reset the field for a thriller. Charles Beal and Pellegrini engaged in a side by side battle until some bumper tag upset the 6 truck, giving Charles just the edge he needed to score the win.

Sean Olden took advantage of his front row starting spot in the Mini Stocks to lead the race by a safe margin at first, until an incident in the battle for second stacked the field up for a restart. Andrew Krzeminski was on the move forward up to this point as it was, but another caution pitting the two together in a multi lap drag race was the edge he needed to take over the lead. Olden fell off the pace on the following restart giving Krzeminski total control as action was fierce in his mirror. Attrition whittled the field down but John Bavolacco kept the wick lit with Erica Canfield in his mirror. Sam Mesick rallied late in the race to knock Canfield off the podium and Krzeminski cruised to win his second in a row.

Zach Martinez took control of the Legend Car race almost immediately picking up where he left off on Blast Off. Kyle Caissie, Dylan Freeman, Ethan Avellar, and Riley Paul would jockey for position in Martinez’s mirror the whole race, until a series of caution flags would thin that herd. Parker Davis was able to keep his nose clean and there was even an appearance from Patrick Smith in the closing laps set up for some exciting racing to close out the podium. Freeman was able to battle back after getting shuffled to fifth and finish second to Martinez, and Davis would round out the podium.

Chris Curtis held a large lead in the Crown Vics when the green flag dropped but it didn’t take long for Jake Caprio to dive underneath Curtis for the lead. It took only a handful of laps to move out front until Curtis pulled off for some mechanical issues leaving John Dulac and Jack Emerson battling it out for the runner up position. Lapped traffic with 3 to go didn’t impede Caprio’s dominance as he’d win back to back races.

Up next at the Speedbowl it’s the return of Wings and Wheels featuring the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series going 100 laps, the Northeastern Midget Association with the NEMA Lites, SK Modifieds®, and SK Lights. It’ll be a can’t miss event, and if you can’t make it in the stands it’ll be broadcast on NESTN.
