ANDERSON TURNS LUCK AROUND LEADING FROM WIRE TO WIRE; KUSHEBA REFAMILIARIZES WITH VICTORY LANE
For immediate release from the New London-Waterford Speedbowl
Updated 6/1/26 @ 3:46pm
WATERFORD – Disaster in the front of the field on lap 1 of the Late Models sidelined Aaron Plemons and Shawn Gaedeke immediately. This left Jordan Hadley and
Ray Christian at the point, but only for another lap when contact between the two send both to the rear. Diego Monahan and Jason Palmer now took point with Monahan working hard to keep Palmer at bay. They stayed side-by-side for much of the race as Christian rallied forward and a visiting Jeff Belyea waited patiently behind. That patience wore off just after halfway when Christian dove underneath the low groove running Palmer, and picked off the high groove running Monahan shortly after. He ran off to safely win race number two of the season.
After a couple rough and tumble SK Light races, the drivers put on a green to checker affair. Sami Anderson started off strong after some bad luck races pulling away from Evan Bourgeois and Kevin Cormier. Her large lead was slowly getting whittled away as the laps clicked down with Bourgeois and Cormier running nose to tail. Lapped traffic came into play in the closing stages but Anderson was able to both maneuver that and hold off Bourgeois to pick up the win.
The Street Stock start got bobbled a bit, but the door that opened for Jon Porter wasn’t an accident. He had run
off to a large lead early ahead of Al Stone III and Greg Moran Jr. Stone chipped away at Porter’s lead as last weeks winner Chad Baxter worked over Moran for third. Stone ran out of laps and when the checkers flew it was Porter celebrating for the first time at the Speedbowl since 2018. In post-race technical inspection, the win was awarded to Stone.
Mason Silva’s rookie campaign in the Trucks has been full of momentum as he took off from Jake Coutu and the rest of the field. Last time out Ryan Lineham made heavy contact with the turn 3 wall, and the team regrouped seemingly faster than before as he moved from his fifth place starting spot into third. He had to hold off some hard charges by defending champion Jaysin Beal and had succeeded. By lap 6 he left Beal behind and moved by Coutu into second. Just 4 laps later he had cut into Silva’s lead, and while Silva was able to hang on for a little bit, Lineham claimed sole ownership of the lead and picked up his second win of the season.
After a few weeks of tough luck, Charles Canfield started off the Mini Stock feature in the right direction. He built
up a large lead over Sean Olden with a strong Sam Mesick and Andrew Krzeminski in Olden’s mirror. Krzeminski moved on by both Mesick and Olden not long after and while Mesick kept the heat on, it wasn’t until a caution with eight to go that changed the outcome of the race. Canfield and Krzeminski kept it tight for a couple laps but ultimately the bad luck resurfaced, and Canfield pulled off with mechanical woes. With 5 to go a duel for the lead between Krzeminski and Mesick had shown the lone front wheel drive car of Mesick out front until the final corner. That’s when contact between the two sent Mesick’s car at a 90-degree angle on corner exit, and John Bavolacco swooped in out of nowhere to steal the win away in a photo finish.
Wade Oemcke and TJ Sansoucy kicked off the Legend Car feature trading the top spot until Oemcke took point with KJ Rocco having a career run in their tire tracks. Seven laps in Rocco would go around and bunch the field back up. Entering; Paul Kusheba. Lately an SK Modified® competitor, showed up to dabble where his Speedbowl career began. He took the lead on lap 9 and had a stranglehold on the field even after a series of cautions eliminated Sansoucy and others in the process. Kusheba picked up his first Legend Car win since 2013, with Aiden Kimmer having a career high finish of second and Oemcke rounding out the podium.
The Showman Jim Bavolacco scored the win in the 40-car, 75 lap Compact Enduro. It was his first win in nearly
30 years.
On the Thursday Night Thunder season opener, Sean Skinner started off strong with the Super X-Car win. Corey Caddick easily took down the X-Car feature. Zach Martinez won the Legend Cars and Landon Heim picked up his first Speedbowl Bandolero win.
Up next for Speedbowl Saturday Nights, we’ve got a 7 division program welcoming the Pro Truck Challenge where our weekly competitors may go up against the tour drivers.
